Armwrestle the #1 Armwrestler on the Planet
"Let's Armwrestle for it." How many of us have said that to a friend a few times in the past in order to sort out or settle a disagreement or bet? Who would have thought that a 'past time' activity could turn into a professional sports career? Well, Devon Larratt has proven that and made some outstanding progress and results along the way.
Born in Victoria, British Columbia, and then moving to Southern Ontario, Devon was always using his hands and quite active during his childhood, growing up and working on the farm, doing manual labour and playing tons of sports. His interest for Armwrestling began as a recreational activity with his grandmother around the age of 4 or 5 and then in 1994, grew into events with real Armwrestlers, such as Dion Lengyel. From 1995 on, Devon grew into the athlete that he is today. He is one of the 50 greatest Armwrestlers in history. Since September 2008, he has been ranked as the number 1 Armwrestler in the world.
Devon may have started young, but he has grown over the years in his style, technique and training. Devon has learned many things in the sport. His training advice to those who are interested in competing at his level and competing in general is to - embrace Armwrestling as part of your life. Make sure that it is fun and enjoyable before anything else and it is essential to build a strong team around you. This team idea will help the athlete more than any weight, machine or food ever can or will. Devon also stresses that with each match, take in all that you can and learn from everyone you can. Small steps and day by day are key. He adds that one has to make their training a priority, but to also make sure that you put your all into those days and rest on your rest days. Great advice for those who are following and competing in the sport.
Devon Larratt and other Professional Armwrestlers will be on hand to demonstrate technique and talk about the sport of Armwrestling at the Toronto Pro SuperShow on Saturday June 2 and Sunday June 3rd.
